Australian Prime Minister identifies childcare as a key component of the knowledge economy

To strengthen the economy, government must assist with the balance between work and family.  Why does this make a significant impact to the economy?  “More parents in the workforce mean that more people will make a bigger economic contribution as well as a social contribution to our country,” stated Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. Abbott’s outline for childcare reforms have received wide coverage including this article in the Sydney Morning Herald. Projecting economic benefits in numbers, the article identifies women as an important and under-utilized source of skills and entrepreneurship. “If female participation in Australia were 6 per cent higher – at Canada’s level – gross domestic product would be higher by $25 billion a year.”
